Diwali is the Festival of Lights which is celebrated in Hinduism in October/November. Diwali means “a row of lights” and the celebration is in honor of the goddess Lakshmi. It is one of the major festivals of Hinduism, and it spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.
During the festival the Goddess bless their home and should bring good luck in the coming year. The home is cleaned and Hindus decorate with candles before the goddess visits. The feast is celebrated in three to five days and will also be a New Year’s party, as it is in this period the Hindu new year begins. Diwali is also considered a good opportunity for those who want to marry.
